The European Commission launched a public consultation to carry out a fitness check of state aid modernization, to check whether the rules have worked as expected and if they are still fit for purpose.

In response to this public consultation, the Conference submitted a joint contribution reminding “the specific situation of its regions in terms of their permanent, structural and cumulated constraints recognized in Article 349 TFEU and which have a significant impact on their economic, social and territorial development “.

It also stresses, moreover, the importance of the economic mechanisms and measures put in place in the outermost regions, which must be part of a specific and transversal approach to support economic development, competitiveness and job creation.
