Date : 04/11/2018 to06/11/2018

The second edition of the Forum “Clean Energy Initiative for the Islands of the EU” will take place next November 4, 5 and 6 in Lanzarote, organized by the regional ministry for economy, industry, commerce and knowledge (Consejería de Economía, Industria, Comercio y Conocimiento) of the Government of the Canary Islands together with the Secretariat of such initiative, on behalf of the Directorate General for Energy of the European Commission.

The Clean Energy Forum for the Islands of the European Union is held within the framework of the ‘Clean Energy for EU Islands’ initiative as part of the package of measures presented by the European Commission with the aim of providing the necessary legislative framework to facilitate the transition towards clean energy and, therefore, take a significant step towards the creation of the Energy Union, as well as allowing the EU to fulfil the commitments adopted by the Paris Agreement.

Moreover, the European Commission has entrusted the Canary Islands with the celebration of the second edition of this meeting, given its commitment to the promotion of energy saving and renewable energies, especially through the promotion of unique projects already developed such as the Hydroelectric Power Plant in the island of El Hierro.

During this forum, several examples of good practices relating to energy in island environments will be presented, so that the public is aware of the challenges and opportunities provided by the decarbonization process in the Islands, as well as real cases.
