As part of the events organised by the Spanish Presidency of the EU, a conference on “the regional insertion of the outermost regions” took place last 20th October in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with the participation of representatives from the outermost regions, the European Commission, the European Parliament and the three States which the OR belong to.
A debate on the future was held on issues such as the notion of “regional insertion” of the OR, the suitability of current European and national support instruments, in particular the European Territorial Cooperation Programmes (INTERREG), and the need to provide greater flexibility in the implementation of certain common policies of particular interest to these regions.
