The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, and the Minister of Economy, Industry, Trade and Knowledge, Pedro Ortega, met this morning with Pablo García-Berdoy, ambassador-permanent representative of Spain to the EU, to whom they presented the program of the Conference of Presidents of the ORs, which has been leading the Canary Islands since October last until the end of 2018.

The head of the Canarian Executive also discussed with the Spanish representative the new Communication of the European Commission on the Outermost Regions, approved at the end of October and that represents a great achievement “Because it is a renewed commitment of the EU with its Outermost Regions”. In this regard, they requested the support of the Government of Spain for the renewed strategy for the ORs.

Fernando Clavijo acknowledged the European Commission’s effort to consider the proposals of the ORs in their joint Memorandum, “reaffirming the adherence of the European institutions to a better fit of the reality of the Outermost Regions, at a sensitive time for the EU”
